Not using your RV as much as you had envisioned at the time you bought it? Do you sometimes feel your RV is nothing more than a money pit?

When you bought it, you certainly planned to use it often enough to make it worth the time, effort, and cost. But those expectations might not have been borne out. Maybe you’ve even considered selling it. But what if you could reduce the cost by using it to generate some income? RV rental platforms exist which enable RV owners to rent out their RV. Sites such as Outdoorsy.com or RVShare.com use a business model much like Airbnb. Renting your RV to others sounds good until you realize that additional income will come with a different kind of cost. The time and effort required to list the RV, manage your bookings, prepare the RV for use, engage with the renters, etc. Will the extra effort really be worth the income you’ll generate?

What if you could get someone else to take on the hassle of renting your RV to others on your behalf? You wouldn’t put as much back into your pocket. But it could still partially, or completely, offset your cost of ownership.

This is where our consignment program comes in. Renting out RVs is our business. The overhead associated with renting a single RV goes down when you’re renting multiple units. Renting multiple RVs is more efficient and cost-effective. And it’s something with which we have a fair bit of experience. Let us put our experience and volume efficiencies to work for you. We can even relieve you of many routine tasks which are needed to keep your RV safe and in good working order. Think of your RV as a rental home on wheels and Sunware RV Depot serves as your property manager.

The Basics

  • You engage us to rent your motor home to vacationers whenever you are not using it.

    • You get to block off time for your own use.

    • You control the rental scenarios - is your RV: pet friendly; restricted to delivery-only; limited by group size; etc.

    • When you do use it, we’ll have it prepped for you just like we would someone renting it.

    • When you return your RV to storage, as long as you don’t leave a huge mess, just as with any renter we will perform our standard cleaning and make sure it’s properly stored

    • Want to use it on the spur of the moment, as long as your dates don’t conflict with a confirmed booking, we can block off your dates with as little as 24 hours’ notice.

  • We store your RV and maintain it in the same condition in which we received it.

    • A nominal storage fee of $75 per month is deducted from your rental earnings.

    • You continue to pay registration fees and are responsible for keeping it current.

    • Property taxes or other government taxes or fees are still your responsibility.

  • We split the nightly rental fee.

    • After deducting the booking platform commission, we split the nightly rental fees 50/50.

    • We retain all other fees for such things as:

      • delivery

      • cleaning (pre and post rental)

      • addons

  • Your income could be enough to cover all your RV-related expenses and put several thousand dollars each year into your pocket!

  • If we are generating a net profit for you, consider forming your own business, generating revenue passively.

    • Consider the benefit of using the depreciation of your RVs value as a tax deduction.

    • Buy a second (or third) unit to put in our consignment program.

  • You don’t have to do anything directly involved in operating the RV rental business.

    • We do the advertising, arrange the rental, collect the money, and supply you with year-end tax reports.

  • Owners of consignment vehicles also receive a discount of 10% on the nightly rental rates of any other RV in our rental inventory.
